Filipinos love to eat sweets and delicacies. And they have several
sweet recipes for special occupations. One of the yummy Filipino delicacies is
Puto Flan. This Filipino delicacy is a combination of the popular and everyone’s favorite leche
flan and puto. It is made with steam rice cake and top with leche flan making
it a perfect for a mouthful dessert.
Many people like it a lot. It is one of the popular kakanin in
Philippines nowadays. Aside from its fun bit size, leche flan is creamy and not
so sweet.
This is relatively easy to make. With few ingredients and few tools you
have, no doubt that you can easily make this yummy Filipino delicacy at home. So
if you want to make your own puto flan, then let’s get started.
For the Puto you will need the following ingredients:
§ 2 cups of All-purpose flour
§ 2 tablespoon of Baking powder
§ 2/3 cup of white granulated sugar
§ 1/2 tsp Salt
§ 4 egg whites
§ 1/3 cup of water
§ 1/3 cup evaporated milk
§ 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Flan:
§ 6 egg yolks
§ 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
(370g)
§ 1 teaspoon of kalamansi juice or vanilla
extract
Procedure:
1. First, heat water in your steamer and bring to a
boil and lightly grease each puto molder with melted butter or oil. While
waiting for the water to boil, let’s make the leche flan.
2. In a clean bowl, mix 6 egg yolks and condensed milk, and add the
calamansi juice. You can also use vanilla extract. Strain the mixture twice
with a fine sieve to make it evenly mixed.

Fill the puto molder with
your leche flan mixture for about 1/3 full.

Steam your flan for 12 minutes. Don’t for forget to check your
flan once in a while and see if the flan is almost cooked.

While steaming your flan,
you can start making your puto mixture. Start with sifting all dry ingredients
together in a bowl, and add the wet ingredients and mix well using a wire wrisk
but do not overmix.

Once the leche flan is done, allow to cool down and add your
puto mixture over your flan mixture and steam again for around 15 minutes. The
puto should rise and with top shiny dome form.

Let them cool before your
remove them from the molds to make sure that the flan and the puto stick
together.
8.
To take out the puto flan from the molders, use a small knife to
loosen the puto from the mould and tap slightly to release.
9.
Serve and enjoy!
